Vectorising a logo – what it means and why it matters

In short

Vectorising means converting a pixel image (JPG, PNG) into a scalable vector graphic that can be brought to any size without loss of quality. This matters for textile printing and embroidery because pixel logos become blurry when enlarged. The result is a file in AI, EPS or SVG format.

What is the difference between pixel and vector?

Pixel images consist of a fixed number of image points (pixels). When enlarged, these points become visible – the image looks pixelated or blurry. Vector graphics, on the other hand, are described mathematically: curves, lines and areas are calculated from formulas and can be scaled to any size without losing sharpness.

Why is vectorising important for printing?

For textile printing and embroidery, the logo has to look clean at different sizes: as a small chest logo 8 cm wide and as a large back design 30 cm wide. A pixel file that only suits one size cannot deliver both. A vector file is infinitely scalable and therefore the basis for professional results.

How do you get a vector file?

The easiest way: ask the agency or graphic designer who created your logo – they should have the original file in vector format. If you only have a pixel file, a graphic designer or print shop can redraw the logo by hand (manual vectorising). Automatic vectorising tools often deliver only mediocre results, especially with complex logos. At macherkleidung.de we check your logo and let you know if rework is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I vectorise my logo myself?

There are online tools and software that try to do this automatically. With simple logos with few colours and clear shapes, this sometimes works well. With complex logos, fine fonts or multi-colour gradients, manual redrawing by a graphic designer delivers much better results.

What does vectorising cost?

That depends on the complexity of the logo. A simple logo with text and a basic shape often costs little at a graphic designer. A complex crest or a very detailed logo takes more effort. Get in touch – we will look at your logo and tell you whether and what is needed.

Is my logo stored permanently if I send it in?

Your logo files are used for production and communication. After the project is finished, they are handled in accordance with our privacy policy. For reorders, it helps if you keep your vector file safe yourself.
